In view of the many uncertainties surrounding the actual size of the fish stocks in Mauritania, regards the interim review clause for cephalopods on the basis of assessment by a Community scientific committee in 2003 as essential; takes the view that the review clause can only be of use if the necessary scientific data are available in 2003, which they are not at present, and expects the Commission to make active efforts to obtain them; considers, furthermore, that independence and transparency of the assessment are important conditions for transparent decision making on the subject of the review clause;
18. acht, gezien de vele onzekerheden rondom de daadwerkelijke grootte van de visbestanden in Mauritanië, de tussentijdse herzieningsclausule voor koppotigen op basis van evaluatie door een gemeenschappelijk wetenschappelijk comité in 2003 als onontbeerlijk; is van mening dat de herzieningsclausule alleen van waarde kan zijn indien in 2003, in tegenstelling tot nu, wel de noodzakelijke wetenschappelijke data aanwezig zijn en verwacht dat de Commissie hier actief aan werkt; ziet daarnaast onafhankelijkheid en openbaarheid van de evaluatie als belangrijke voorwaarde voor een transparante besluitvorming rondom de herzieningsclausule.
