The Commission’s examination of the deal included an assessment of the activities of Lite-On, a Taiwan technology company, in APMs and showed that the horizontal overlap between the activities of either PBDS or Lite-On and Philips’ APM business are small and that the combined entity would continue to face several strong and effective competitors.

The Commission also analysed the effects of the proposed transaction in relation to Lite-On's manufacture of APMs and PBDS' supply activities (as a result of a separate transaction, Lite-On is due to replace BENQ as controlling shareholder in PBDS while Philips remains the other controlling shareholder (see IP/07/201).
