In accordance with the 2005 Act of Accession, joining the Schengen area without internal border control requires a decision by the Council, after consultation of the European Parliament and after verification in accordance with the applicable Schengen evaluation procedures that the necessary conditions for the application of all parts of the Schengen acquis concerned have been met.
(EN) In overeenstemming met de Toetredingsakte van 2005 is deelname aan het Schengengebied zonder interne grenscontroles pas mogelijk middels een besluit van de Raad na raadpleging van het Europees Parlement. Daarnaast moet conform de geldende evaluatieprocedures voor Schengen getoetst worden of er aan de noodzakelijke voorwaarden is voldaan voor de toepassing van alle relevante onderdelen van het Schengenacquis.
