The past few years have been particularly difficult for our communities: the moratorium on cod, with the huge number of workers and fishermen cast aside, a moratorium that affected almost 800 of workers; the interruption of activities at the Seleine Mines, which deprived some 200 people of their livelihood for over two years; the reform of employment insurance which reduced benefits for a significant proportion of our workers who depend on it to a great extent for an adequate level of income, the downsizing of public and para-public service staff which led to the disappearance of nearly 150 jobs in the past five years.
