There must be limits to Europe internally, in its dealings with the Member States; in the internal market, at any rate, we are coming up against the limits of integration, by which I mean the limits of what the public are prepared to accept by way of European rules and regulations, and the Commission is not least among those who transgress those boundaries to integration, occasionally deliberately and without any feel for subsidiarity.
Il doit y avoir des limites à l’Europe au niveau interne, dans ses négociations avec les États membres. Au niveau du marché intérieur, en tout cas, nous nous heurtons aux limites de l’intégration. J’entends par là les limites de ce que les citoyens sont prêts à accepter en termes de règles et de règlements européens et, à cet égard, la Commission n’est pas la dernière à transgresser ces limites à l’intégration, parfois délibérément et en faisant fi de la subsidiarité.
