As I have said before further to the discussion on Mr Jonathan Evans’ report, I agree that we must cover all the angles in order to proceed in a more transparent and more effective way, thereby cutting down on bureaucracy and red tape, which does not benefit anybody, is too time-consuming, and, as Mrs in ‘t Veld put it very graphically, ultimately, what matters is the public, the consumers and taxpayers, who want to know what happens with their money and to what effect.
Comme je l’ai dit tout à l’heure après le débat sur le rapport de M. Jonathan Evans, j’approuve, moi aussi, la nécessité d’étudier la question sous tous les angles dans le but d’agir de manière plus transparente et plus efficace et de réduire par la même occasion la paperasserie, qui n’apporte rien à personne et qui prend trop de temps. Je répéterai ce que Mme in 't Veld a dit de manière très schématique: l’important, en fin de compte, ce sont les citoyens, à savoir les consommateurs et les contribuables, qui veulent savoir quel usage est fait de leur argent.
