Throughout the years, the exuberance of seafaring life along the coasts has helped to define Canadian culture and identity, due in part to the coastal communities of the First Nations, the European whalers and fishermen unafraid to sail the high seas to come and harvest our marine resources, and the first settlers who came from the old world to start a new life along the coast of this new found world that came to be known as Newfoundland.
Depuis la nuit des temps l'exubérante vie maritime de ses eaux a contribué à forger la culture et l'identité canadienne, que l'on songe aux villages côtiers des Premières Nations, aux baleiniers et pêcheurs européens qui n'hésitaient pas à affronter la haute mer pour venir puiser à même les richesses de nos mers ou encore aux premiers colons venus de l'ancien monde pour se bâtir une nouvelle vie sur les rives de cette terre nouvellement trouvée, c'est-à-dire Terre-Neuve.
