I commend the rapporteur for her work and, speaking on behalf of this Parliament’s Intergroup on Animal Welfare, I too call for withdrawal of this proposal, because, sadly, it will do nothing for the welfare of animals.
Je félicite le rapporteur pour son travail et, au nom de l’intergroupe sur le bien-être animal du Parlement, je demande également le retrait de cette proposition, car elle ne fera malheureusement rien pour le bien-être des animaux.

– Mr President, I am delighted to see that Commissioner Byrne is here this morning because, as Chairman of the European Parliament's Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals, I was very disappointed to receive a letter from Commissioner Byrne saying he was unable to come and meet our intergroup in the next three, four, five or six months to discuss issues concerning animal welfare, in particular the live transport of animals.
- (EN) Monsieur le Président, je me réjouis de la présence dans l'hémicycle du commissaire Byrne car, en tant que président de l'intergroupe "Bien-être animal" du Parlement européen, j'ai été vivement déçu de recevoir un courrier du commissaire dans lequel il disait ne pouvoir rencontrer notre intergroupe au cours des trois, quatre, cinq ou six prochains mois, afin de discuter de questions relatives au bien-être animal, et notamment celle du transport d'animaux vivants.
