Having interacted with a number of soldiers, especially in the preparation of those soldiers who serve in Afghanistan now who were from Petawawa in my previous employment as the brigade commander, what resonates through—and we've heard the soldiers speak—is that their reason for being in Afghanistan is simple: “I want to make a difference in Afghanistan and to help Afghans”.
