Commission Vice President in charge of competition policy Joaquín Almunia commented: “Reaching the targets of the Digital Agenda is very important, but how we reach them is important as well. The state aid rules ensure that state-funded broadband infrastructures are deployed in the most pro-competitive way. Xarxa Oberta will bring very high speed broadband to Catalonia at pro-competitive conditions and citizens and businesses in the region will benefit from state of the art infrastructure".
Joaquín Almunia, vice-président de la Commission chargé de la politique de la concurrence, a déclaré à ce sujet: «La réalisation des objectifs de la stratégie numérique est très importante, mais la manière d'y parvenir l'est également. Grâce aux règles sur les aides d'État, les infrastructures haut débit financées par l'État peuvent être déployées en favorisant au maximum la concurrence. Xarxa Oberta permettra à la Catalogne de disposer de réseaux à très haut débit à des conditions favorables à la concurrence et les citoyens et les entreprises de la région pourront bénéficier d'une infrastructure de pointe».
