After he served an 18-year sentence without any remission (more than 11 years of which were spent in solitary confinement), the Israeli Government continues to hold him in Israel against his will. The Israeli Minister of the Interior, Mr Opir Paz-Pines, declared that he will not issue a passport to Dr Vanunu for another 12 months, which will keep Dr Vanunu from leaving Israel until at least spring 2006.
