As a reflection of both sides' interest in promoting human rights, the dialogue should also be used to exchange views on thematic issues which may not be of concern in that country, such as the death penalty, torture and racism and xenophobia, the human rights of women, not least in order to build coalitions and support for EU positions in international fora, including the UN.

Expresses great concern about the grave crisis that has been affecting the country since September 2014, when serious violations of the laws of war and human rights abuses were committed by the Houthis and other Yemeni armed groups, and since March 2015, when the Saudi-led coalition did the same; in particular, condemns the indiscriminate and disproportionate airstrikes conducted by the latter coalition, which have killed and wounded scores of civilians and destroyed numerous items of civilian property; whereas the High Commissioner for Human Rights is expected to report to the Council on the situation in Yemen at its next session, in March 2016; calls on the EU to support the establishment at the Human Rights Council of an international inquiry to document violations by all sides since September 2014;

Calls, therefore, on the Government to address these issues systematically by amending legislation and by ensuring its proper implementation at all levels of government, including the municipalities; points too, in this context, to the recommendations adopted by the Venice Commission in spring 2010 concerning the legal personality of religious communities and the ecclesiastical title ‘Ecumenical’ of the Orthodox Patriarchate; welcomes the recent decision by the ‘Foundations Assembly’ to transfer the Büyükada Greek Orphanage for Boys to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in accordance with the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights, and the granting of Turkish citizenship to several Greek Orthodox clergy in order to facilitate the Patriarchate and the Holy Synod; welcomes the religious ceremony in the Sümela Monastery Museum in Trabzon and the ceremony in the church on Akdamar Island in the province of Van; finds the Turkish Supreme Court decision against Mor Gabriel Monastery, concerning a land dispute with villages and the Turkish Treasury, to be regrettable; restates its expectation that the Government’s announcements about the reopening of the Halki Greek Orthodox seminary will soon be followed by action and by measures providing for the unhindered training of Christian communities’ clergy; urges the Government to pay special attention to educational materials in schools, which should reflect the religious plurality of Turkish society, and to the need for unbiaised learning materials;

The Interim Government will take all necessary steps to facilitate that all allegations of human rights infringements are investigated or dealt with in accordance with the various procedures and forums under the laws of the Fiji Islands.

While we should always treat those seeking entry into our countries humanely and respect their human rights, I believe that the EU is right to thoroughly analyse which countries can be included on the positive list. In this respect, the inclusion of Taiwan on the aforementioned list seems reasonable to me, bearing in mind the island’s levels of human and economic development, as well as the fact that the rule of law is properly applied there.
Il nous incombe, certes, de traiter avec humanité ceux qui souhaitent entrer dans nos pays et de respecter leurs droits civiques, mais il n’en reste pas moins que l’UE a parfaitement raison, selon moi, d’évaluer minutieusement les pays admis sur la liste positive. À cet égard, le transfert de Taïwan sur la liste susmentionnée me paraît tout à fait opportun, vu le niveau de développement économique et humain atteint par cette île et son respect inconditionnel de la règle de droit.
