At the Urban Housing Intergroup, which I have the honour of chairing, we have highlighted urban growth over the last few years: in 10 years, urban growth has covered three times the surface of Luxembourg.

I should also point out, in conjunction with my fellow members of the URBAN intergroup, that the URBAN-housing intergroup was set up in 2005.

– (IT) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, right from the very start of this parliamentary term some of us have been paying particular attention to the subject of the urban dimension, and none more so than Mr Beaupuy. He was already doing so before the creation of the European Parliament’s Urban Housing Intergroup, of which he himself is Chairman and I a member, and which is working very well.

3. Calls on the Commission to move towards a horizontal application of the urban dimension and towards coordination between the departments of the Commission which are directly or indirectly concerned with urban issues, such as the Regional Policy, Enterprise and Industry, Competition, Energy and Transport, Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, Research, Environment, Education and Culture Directorates-General, adopting an approach based on identifying specific problems of the urban situation in each field of action and at the same time highlighting the positive impacts of those policies on local contexts, and therefore proposes the setting up of an interdepartmental task force along the lines of the Urban-housing intergroup in the European Parliament;
3. demande à la Commission de s'orienter vers une application horizontale de la dimension urbaine et vers une coordination entre les services de la Commission qui travaillent directement ou indirectement sur des questions urbaines, comme les directions générales Politique régionale, Entreprises et industrie, Concurrence, Énergie et transports, Emploi, affaires sociales et égalité des chances, Recherche, Environnement, Éducation et culture, en adoptant une approche consistant à identifier les problèmes concrets de la réalité urbaine dans chaque domaine d'action et de souligner simultanément les impacts positifs de ces politiques sur les contextes locaux; et propose dès lors la création d'une task-force interservices faisant écho à "l'intergroupe Urban-logement" au sein du Parlement européen;
