Since then, the flag has been used, with varying but growing degrees of success, at both European and national, regional and local public buildings, at public institutions and ceremonies (in some Member States it is even unfurled alongside the national flag in the national parliaments), as a symbol identifying Community programmes and actions (for example, at internal borders between Member States, symbolising the abolition of controls at internal borders, or on information for the public on public works programmes co-financed by the Union, etc.).
Depuis lors, il a été utilisé, avec un succès varié mais croissant, sur les bâtiments publics européens mais également nationaux, régionaux ou locaux, dans des institutions et des cérémonies publiques (dans certains États membres, il est même arboré à côté du drapeau national au parlement national) et comme symbole identificateur de programmes et d'actions communautaires (par exemple aux frontières intérieures entre États membres, symbolisant ainsi l'abolition des contrôles à ces frontières, ou pour l'information de la population sur des programmes de travaux publics cofinancés par l'Union européenne, etc.).
