The grant, from the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO), will help to provide medical and health services for displaced persons in the Trans-Nzoia district of Rift Valley Province and the neighbouring areas of Mount Elgon and Bungoma in Western Province. Some 250 000 people in the area have been forced out of their homes by two years of violent clashes over farmland between different ethnic groups, and local health services are unable to cope with the influx of refugees.
