Before addressing Canada's objectives in the area of culture at the upcoming WTO negotiations, I would like to highlight the fact that the culture of a country, from a sociological and anthropological point of view, which includes language, history, political and social institutions, customs and traditions, etc., will probably be affected by the liberalization of trade insofar as trade tends to limit domestic intervention in the economy and to impose the same trade mould onto the numerous expectations of citizens in the various fields of human endeavour.
Avant de traiter des objectifs du Canada dans le secteur de la culture lors des prochaines négociations de l'OMC, je voudrais d'abord souligner que la culture d'un État, entendue dans un sens sociologique et anthropologique comme englobant la langue, l'histoire, les institutions sociales et politiques, les us et coutumes, etc., peut difficilement ne pas être affectée par la libéralisation des échanges dans la mesure où celle-ci tend à limiter l'intervention de l'État dans l'économie et à imposer un même moule commercial aux multiples attentes des citoyens dans les divers domaines de l'activité humaine.
