Under the accord, the US administration will make a proposal to Congress to change the status of EU wine names such as Burgundy, Champagne, Chablis, Chianti, Madeira, Malaga, Port, Sherry and Tokay currently considered semi-generic terms in the US, and limit their use in the US.
Aux termes de l'accord, le gouvernement des États-Unis présentera au Congrès une proposition tendant à changer le statut de dénominations européennes telles que bourgogne, champagne, chablis, madère, malaga, porto, sherry (vin de Xérès) et tokay, termes actuellement considérés comme semi génériques aux États-Unis, et à en limiter l’usage dans ce pays.
