Following preparations initiated and carried out by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) with the participation of the Member States which are members of the Hague Union, the Member States which are not members of the Hague Union and the European Community, the Diplomatic Conference, convened for that purpose at Geneva, adopted the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement concerning the international registration of industrial designs (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Geneva Act’) on 2 July 1999.
Au terme des travaux préparatoires engagés par l'Organisation mondiale de la propriété intellectuelle, avec la participation des États membres parties à l'Union de La Haye, des États membres qui ne sont pas parties à l'Union de La Haye et de la Communauté européenne, la conférence diplomatique convoquée à cette fin à Genève a adopté, le 2 juillet 1999 à Genève, l'acte de Genève de l'arrangement de Madrid concernant l'enregistrement international des dessins et modèles industriels (ci-après dénommé «acte de Genève»).

The Council, by Council Decision 954 approved the accession of the European Community to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement concerning the international registration of industrial designs and authorised the President of the Council to deposit the instrument of accession with the Director-General of WIPO as from the date on which the Council has adopted the measures which are necessary to give effect to the accession of the Community to the Geneva Act.
Par la décision , le Conseil a approuvé l'adhésion de la Communauté européenne à l'acte de Genève de l'arrangement de La Haye concernant l'enregistrement international des dessins et modèles industriels et a autorisé le président du Conseil à déposer l'instrument d'adhésion auprès du directeur général de l'OMPI à partir de la date à laquelle le Conseil a adopté les mesures qui sont nécessaires pour donner effet à l'adhésion de la Communauté à l'acte de Genève.

The Council authorised the Commission to open negotiations to ensure participation by the Community in the Diplomatic Conference to be held in Geneva from 16 June to 6 July 1999, under the auspices of the World International Property Organisation (WIPO), for the adoption of a new act of the Hague Agreement concerning the international registration of industrial designs.
Le Conseil a autorisé la Commission à ouvrir des négociations pour assurer la participation de la Communauté à la Conférence diplomatique qui se tiendra à Genève du 16 juin au 6 juillet 1999, dans le cadre de l'Organisation mondiale de la propriété intellectuelle (OMPI), pour l'adoption d'un nouvel acte de l'Arrangement de La Haye concernant l'enregistrement international des dessins et modèles industriels.
