Closing the debate, EESC President Anne-Marie Sigmund thanked Ms Wallström, highlighting the two institutions’ converging views, notably culture as an element of a European identity, the support of the Commission in the Committees’ work concerning the Lisbon strategy for growth and jobs, and the role of the EESC in organising civil society summits.
Mme Anne-Marie Sigmund, présidente du CESE, qui concluait les débats, a remercié Mme Wallström, tout en soulignant la convergence de vues entre les deux institutions, en particulier en ce qui concerne la culture en tant qu'élément d'une identité européenne, le soutien de la Commission aux travaux du Comité relatifs à la stratégie de Lisbonne pour la croissance et l'emploi, et le rôle du CESE dans l'organisation de sommets de la société civile.

The Minister thanked the EESC for its exploratory work, particularly its opinion on the knowledge-based society (see press release No 138/2005) which will serve as a basis for the Presidency's work on the Lisbon Strategy.
