IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS
Mr. Speaker, we are talking about taxpayer money.

Instead of just talking about taxpayers' money, would the Prime Minister finally stand up and say that he is going to defend Canadian taxpayers and hold the unelected Senate to account?

Colleagues, we are talking about taxpayers’ money, many of whom have also lost their jobs and are getting no subsidies, many of whom are going through severe financial problems.

Diane Dodds (NI). – Mr President, I will leave aside the most pertinent question this morning, and that is: how on earth are European taxpayers going to pay for all of the apparatus and secretariat that has been talked about and proposed in this House this morning?

We are talking about taxpayer dollars, in some cases hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars, yet when awarding the contracts, the government has suggested that it only wants the reports to be delivered orally because it does not want a written record of it just in case, God forbid, it has done something wrong.

If the argument is made that we have reason to say 12, it just may pass (1135) I'm just concerned, Mr. Chair, about some people abusing the system, because you were talking about taxpayers' money. If you have a party that's set up, you can fund an office, you can fund travel, you can fund a small staff, and you can spread a point of view that, even though we do have freedom of expression in this country, might not be one the taxpayers in general want funded from the tax base.

We are talking about taxpayers' money here, and we must be sure that it is used to achieve the goals set by the international community and the European Union.

Let me emphasise once again that we are talking about taxpayers' money here.

We are talking about taxpayers' money today as this is the business of supply. In the House of Commons later on this evening we are going to vote on about $160 billion worth of spending.
