(3) By supporting nuclear research and innovation excellence the Research and Training Programme of the Community (hereinafter the ‘Euratom Programme’) will contribute to achieving objectives of the ‘Horizon 2020’ Framework Programme for Research and Innovation established by Regulation (EU) No./.of [..] (hereinafter ‘Horizon 2020 Framework Programme’) and facilitate implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy and the creation and operation of the European Research Area and help to implement the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (the "SET-Plan") In addition, the Euratom Programme should seek to make further use of Structural Funds for nuclear research and ensure alignment of the funds with Community research priorities without compromising the principle of excellence.
(3) En soutenant la recherche nucléaire et l'excellence en matière d'innovation, le programme de recherche et de formation de la Communauté (ci-après dénommé "le programme Euratom") contribuera à la réalisation des objectifs du programme-cadre pour la recherche et l'innovation "Horizon 2020" établi par le règlement (UE) XX/XXXX du [...] (ci-après dénommé "le programme-cadre Horizon 2020"), facilitera la mise en œuvre de la stratégie Europe 2020 ainsi que la création et le fonctionnement de l'Espace européen de la recherche et contribuera à la mise en œuvre du plan stratégique pour les technologies énergétiques ("plan SET"). Androulla Vassiliou, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, will visit the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland, on 15 April to meet scientists and researchers supported with funding from the EU Marie Curie Actions.

The JRC will, therefore, maintain its nuclear research programme and continue to provide support for developing policy options for the most appropriate "energy mix" needed for the 21st century, consistent with the goals of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan - see MEMO/09/437).

The symposium is organised jointly by the Commission (DG XI with support of DG XII), the Nuclear Research Center in Mol and the State Committee of the Russian Federation on Chernobyl Affairs.
