– (DE) Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, it cannot be stressed too emphatically that this summit will determine whether the European Union possesses the political capacity and the conjoined strength to adapt the fundamentals of the treaties, which now apply to 27 Member States, to the growing demands of a globalised world, or whether it will fail to meet this challenge and keep on energetically running on the spot.
- (DE) Monsieur le Président, Mesdames et Messieurs, on ne peut insister suffisamment sur le fait que ce sommet déterminera si l’Union européenne possède la capacité politique et la force conjointe nécessaires pour adapter les principes fondamentaux des Traités, qui s’appliquent aujourd’hui à 27 États membres, aux exigences croissantes d’un monde globalisé, ou si elle est incapable de relever ce défi et continuera à faire du sur place.
