– Mr President, I am sorry for interrupting at this point, but before the Commission and the Council reply to this morning’s debate, I want to draw attention to the fact that not a single speaker referred to the non-sectarian nature of the European Union and how important it is that the declaration make clear that the European Union respects all religions, that it is a secular organisation, and that it must maintain its democratic and secular nature if it is to maintain its cohesion.
- (EN) Monsieur le Président, je suis désolé de vous interrompre maintenant, mais je voudrais, avant d’entendre la réponse de la Commission et du Conseil au débat de ce matin, attirer votre attention sur le fait qu’aucun orateur n’a souligné la nature non sectaire de l’Union européenne ni combien il importe que la déclaration précise que l’Union européenne respecte toutes les religions, que c’est une organisation laïque et qu’elle doit préserver sa nature démocratique et laïque pour préserver sa cohésion.
