It brought together around 150 representatives of a very broad cross-section of civil society, ranging from socio-occupational organisations to voluntary bodies, NGOs active in the social, environmental, human rights, educational and cultural sectors and religious bodies. Convention vice-chairman Jean-Luc Dehaene and European Commissioner Michel Barnier, member of the Convention Praesidium, both attended the meeting.
Cette rencontre, à laquelle participait environ 150 personnes représentant un très large éventail de la société civile organisations socio-professionnelles, monde associatif, ONG actives dans les secteurs social, humanitaire, des droits de l'homme, de l'environnement, de la culture et de l'éducation, communautés de foi et de religion s'est déroulée en présence de MM. Jean-Luc Dehaene, vice-président de la Convention européenne, et le Commissaire Michel Barnier, membre du Présidium de la Convention.

It brought together about one hundred persons from organisations representing a very wide cross-section of organised civil society: socio-occupational organisations, voluntary bodies, NGOs active in the social, environment, human rights, educational and cultural sectors, and religious bodies.
Une centaine de personnes représentant un très large éventail de la société civile organisée participaient à cette rencontre: organisations socio-professionnelles, monde associatif, ONG actives dans les secteurs social, de l'environnement, des droits de l'homme, de l'éducation et de la culture, communautés de foi et de religion.

But precisely because we feel that all economic and social actors should have the chance to take part in the dialogue, precisely because we are aware of the responsibility conferred on us as representatives of European citizens through the socio-occupational bodies to which they belong, it is also important that the Commission broaches the question of instigating a civil dialogue with the NGOs alongside the social dialogue.
Toutefois, c'est précisément parce que nous pensons que tous les acteurs économiques et sociaux doivent pouvoir participer au dialogue, parce que nous avons conscience de la responsabilité que nous confère le fait de représenter les citoyens européens à travers les organismes socioprofessionnels auxquels ils appartiennent, qu'il importe également que la Commission aborde la question d'un dialogue civil à instaurer avec les ONG afin de compléter le dialogue social.
