The €50 million in humanitarian aid funding will support 15 different projects to help people in need across Turkey, and go to partners including the Danish Refugee Council, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), International Medical Corps UK and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFCR), who are working in close cooperation with Turkish partner organisations.

A number of reforms have still to be carried out, particularly in respect of organised civil society in Turkey:

Assistance to bolster democracy, develop human resources and protect the environment, which will focus on: - improving the efficiency of public services and the civil service, including local government; - promoting knowledge and practice of human rights observance; - promoting civic awareness and the involvement of civil society in Turkey's development (trade associations, unions, the media, etc.); - furthering the role of women in development; - education and vocational training; - improving social services, particularly those for the most disadvantaged; - protecting the environment.

I would also like to highlight the important role which civil society in Turkey must and does play in improving the situation of women, and in gender equality.
