– Mr President, let me say at the very start of this debate that the Socialist Group congratulates Caroline Lucas on her report, truly supports it and will vote for all the amendments that she proposes in her report.
- (EN) Monsieur le Président, permettez-moi de dire au début de ce débat que le groupe socialiste félicite Caroline Lucas pour son rapport qui bénéficie de notre total soutien, et qu’il votera en faveur de tous les amendements qu’elle y propose.

Accordingly, in addition to congratulating the rapporteur, in addition also to expressing our satisfaction for the positive attitude of the other Groups, especially the Socialist Group, with whom we have reached broad agreement allowing economic policy outlines to be drawn up, my political Group, the Group of the European People’s Party, wishes to stress the appropriateness of strengthening the European Union, and strengthening the European economy by advocating and committing ourselves to economic reforms.
Par conséquent, en plus de féliciter le rapporteur et d’exprimer notre satisfaction envers l’attitude positive des autres groupes, du groupe socialiste en particulier avec lequel nous sommes parvenus à un large accord permettant de dresser les grandes lignes de politique économique, mon groupe politique, le groupe du parti populaire européen, souhaite insister sur l’opportunité de renforcer l’Union européenne et son économie en défendant les réformes économiques et en s’engageant à les faire.

- (ES) Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Président en exercice du Conseil, Monsieur le Président de la Commission, Mesdames et Messieurs, permettez-moi, au nom du groupe du parti socialiste européen, de féliciter le groupe du parti populaire européen à l’occasion de son cinquantième anniversaire.

Things therefore needed to change and I would like at this point not only to thank you – I am really very touched by your last-minute arrival to chair this debate – but also to congratulate the four shadow rapporteurs who have helped us to reach a consensus: Mr Méndez de Vigo for the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats, Mr Corbett for the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, Mr Guardans Cambó for the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and Mrs Kaufmann for the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left.
Donc, il a fallu faire évoluer les choses et je tiens ici, non seulement à vous remercier - je suis vraiment très touché de votre présence si tardive pour présider ce débat -, mais également à saluer les quatre rapporteurs fictifs qui nous ont aidés à dégager un consensus: Íñigo Méndez de Vigo pour le PPE, Richard Corbett pour le PSE, Ignasi Guardans Cambó pour les libéraux et Sylvia-Yvonne Kaufmann pour la GUE.

I therefore wish, on behalf of the Group of the Party of European Socialists, to congratulate, above all, the rapporteur on his commitment to the matter in hand and, most of all, warmly thank him for cooperating so well with his other colleagues, too.
