Myanmar’s first ASEAN chairmanship in 2014 provided the opportunity for the EU to step up engagement with the country at the regional level and work towards implementing the "Bandar Seri Begawan Plan of Action to strengthen the ASEAN-EU Enhanced Partnership (2013-2017)" and promoting EU strategic interests in the Asia Pacific as set out later on in the EU Joint Communication ‘The EU and ASEAN: a partnership with a strategic purpose’ and the ensuing Council conclusions.
La première présidence de l'ASEAN qu'a assumée le Myanmar en 2014 a été pour l'UE l'occasion d'intensifier sa coopération avec le pays au niveau régional et d'œuvrer à la réalisation du «plan d'action 2013-2017 de Bandar Seri Begawan visant à consolider le partenariat renforcé entre l'ASEAN et l'UE» ainsi qu'à la promotion de ses intérêts stratégiques dans la région Asie-Pacifique, qu'elle a présentés par la suite dans la communication conjointe intitulée «L'UE et l'ASEAN: un partenariat à visée stratégique» et dans les conclusions du Conseil auxquelles cette communication a donné lieu.

F. whereas EU-ASEAN relations are comprehensive and cover a wide range of sectors including trade and investment, development, economics and political affairs; whereas the Bandar Seri Begawan Plan of Action from 2012 was adopted to give a more strategic focus to the regional cooperation between EU and ASEAN in these sectors;

L. whereas the Bandar Seri Begawan Plan of Action of 2012 between the EU and ASEAN aims to give more strategic focus to cooperation on the three pillars of ASEAN, as well as to cultural and development cooperation, and it has regular meetings at ministerial and senior official levels;
L. considérant que le plan d'action Bandar Seri Begawan de 2012 entre l'Union européenne et l'ANASE vise à accorder une plus grande priorité stratégique à la coopération dans les trois piliers de l'ANASE, à la coopération dans le domaine de la culture et à la coopération au développement; considérant que ce plan d'action organise régulièrement des réunions au niveau ministériel et au niveau des hauts fonctionnaires;

The recommendations of the report will be framed by the ASEM process, the Nuremberg Declaration, the Bandar Seri Begawan Plan of Action, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, as well as on the future Partnership and Cooperation Agreements.
