Insofar as the final criteria is concerned, among the objectives of sentencing are the following: the denunciation of unlawful conduct; the deterrence of the offender and others from committing offences; separation of the offender from the community when necessary; the rehabilitation of the offender; the provision of reparation to victims in the community; and the promotion of a sense of responsibility in the offender.
En ce qui concerne le dernier critère, les peines doivent être déterminées dans le but d'atteindre les objectifs suivants: dénoncer le comportement illégal; dissuader les délinquants et quiconque de commettre des infractions; isoler au besoin les délinquants du reste de la société; favoriser la réinsertion sociale des délinquants; assurer la réparation des torts causés aux victimes ou à la collectivité; susciter la conscience de leurs responsabilités chez les délinquants.
