Throughout his wonderful life, Senator Heath Macquarrie brought that same kind of gentle and tolerant persuasion and patriotism, that same kind of caring, compassionate soul, that same kind of intellectual depth and continuing joy in the process of learning to the hearts of the many lives he touched, whether as parliamentarian or academic, as author or social activist and critic, or delegate to the United Nations General Assembly, where I had the delightful privilege of serving as one of his colleagues.
Tout au long de sa vie remarquable, le sénateur Heath Macquarrie a fait montre de ce pouvoir de persuasion et de ce patriotisme doux et tolérant, de ce même genre d'âme compatissante, de ce même genre de profondeur intellectuelle et de cette joie ininterrompue d'apprendre. Il a touché bien des gens droit au coeur, que ce soit comme parlementaire ou universitaire, comme auteur ou comme activiste et critique social, ou comme délégué à l'Assemblée générale des Nations Unies, où j'ai eu l'heureux privilège d'être un de ses collègues.
