My purpose in rising at this time is to make a plea. It is a plea to honourable senators, from whatever part of Canada they may come, to the Senate and to the Parliament of Canada that we reaffirm, indeed, that we insist on our authority, our commitment and our responsibility as the Parliament of Canada for the Cape Breton Development Corporation and for the economic and social fate of Cape Breton and Cape Bretoners and that we not hand it off and abandon it as this bill would have us do.
Si je prends la parole maintenant, c'est pour présenter un plaidoyer, pour demander aux honorables sénateurs, de quelque région qu'ils soient, au Sénat et au Parlement canadien de réaffirmer et, de fait, d'insister sur notre autorité, notre engagement et notre responsabilité en tant que parlementaires, à l'égard de la Société de développement du Cap-Breton et au sujet du sort économique et social du Cap-Breton et de ses habitants, et pour que nous ne les abandonnions pas, comme le ferait le projet de loi à l'étude.
