– (FR) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, to conclude this debate, I would like to begin, in general terms, by saying once again that, on the eve of the G20 meetings, we were really very clear on the fact that it was important for the Union to reach a satisfactory outcome on a large number of issues, and that we had to work to ensure that the G20 remained, first and foremost, a credible and legitimate forum, capable of producing concrete results, as I was saying just now, and of giving a coordinated political impetus to globalisation, so that the Union, in particular, can make its voice heard in this context. I think, without glossing over the difficulties – and many of you have referred to those difficulties – that the Union has fulfilled its obligations and that the work of the European institutions and of the countries of the Union, which participate in these G20 discussions, can be judged to have been satisfactory.

– (FR) Mr President, Commissioner, I would first like to say how pleased I am with how this second rail package is progressing. More generally, I am also very happy with the admirable work to promote railways undertaken during this period. I am sure all of us here today have different sensibilities. Nonetheless, we are all united in the common cause of boosting the rail sector and of giving it new hope. It is a case of convincing all the players in the rail sector that Europe is not out to handicap national rail networks. On the contrary, it is here to provide an opportunity for a renaissance of the railways. This truly is the primary objective.
- Monsieur le Président, Madame la Commissaire, je voudrais d’abord me féliciter de l’avancée de ce second paquet ferroviaire et, plus généralement, du travail tout à fait remarquable qui a été fait pendant cette mandature en faveur du chemin de fer car il s’agit bien, pour nous tous ici, sans doute avec des différences de sensibilité, de relancer le rail, de lui redonner espoir et de bien faire comprendre à l’ensemble des acteurs du ferroviaire que l’Europe, c’est une chance de renaissance du rail et non pas un handicap pour les chemins de fer nationaux. Le premier objectif est bien là.
