My understanding was that the information went so far as to determine whether the ticket was bought with a credit card or by cash, whether the person had travelled the same route frequently before, whether the person was travelling with the same people they had travelled with in the past, a great deal of information that might be quite difficult to get if you were just interviewing a person.
