IN-CONTEXT TRANSLATIONS

1. On 23 February 2018 an international high-level conference on the Sahel was held in Brussels under the aegis of Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger and President-in-office of the G5 Sahel, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations and Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, at the end of which the following conclusions were drawn:

This conference, which is one of several high-level events held in recent weeks, in particular the G5 Sahel Summit in Niamey on 6 February, has focused the support of the international community on the following three priorities:

The last two ministerial meetings were held in Brussels, in June 2015 and 2016. The HR/VP also took part in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G5 Sahel in Chad in November 2015.

The EU welcomes the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2071 and the increasing international attention being focused on the Sahel and Mali, as also evidenced by the high-level meeting held in the margins of the United Nations General Assembly on 26 September 2012 and the development of a UN integrated strategy for the Sahel.
