On the other hand, parts of Asia continue to be wracked by outbreaks of war and ethnic and inter-communal strife (e.g. Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Aceh, Mindanao, across the Taiwan Straits, in the South China Sea, on the Korean peninsula), resulting in human casualties, political instability, environmental damage, human rights violations, and migration of refugees and other displaced persons.
