My colleague, Frank Vanhecke, who is a publisher in charge of a local Flemish publication, and was prosecuted by the Belgian government and its politically appointed judges on account of an opinion-related offence, was not even given the opportunity of defending himself in this Parliament, when it decided last month to remove his political immunity.

D. whereas the failure of former President Morsi and his government to deliver on economic promises, to take into account the legitimate concerns of all the different components and communities of Egyptian society, and to implement the democratic transition called for by the population resulted in increasing political polarisation, mass demonstrations, and his eventual removal from power by the military, citing the need to intervene in order to avoid further bloodshed;

If a politician expresses noxious views, it should be up to his constituents to remove him, not the courts, let alone his political opponents.
