Appreciates the constructive approach of the Serbian Government to relations with neighbouring countries, since this has enabled substantial progress in both regional cooperation and closer relations with the EU, and urges Serbia to continue to build on its good-neighbourly relations; calls on Serbia to promote good-neighbourly relations and the peaceful settlement of disputes, which includes promoting a climate of tolerance and condemning all forms of hate speech or war-time rhetoric and refraining from gestures such as publicly welcoming the return of individuals convicted of war crimes; notes that outstanding disputes and issues, in particular issues of border demarcation, succession, return of cultural goods and disclosure of Yugoslavian archives should be resolved in line with international law and established principles, including through implementation of legally binding agreements, inter alia the agreement on succession issues, and that bilateral disputes should be addressed in the early stages of the accession process in accordance with international law; highlights Serbia’s constructive role in the framework of the ‘Berlin Process’ and the Western Balkan Six initiative and its connectivity agenda; welcomes other initiatives focused on the future of the Western Balkans, in particular the Brdo Process, which proves to be an important framework for cooperation in both political and technical fields, and takes the view that concrete cooperation in areas of mutual interest can contribute to the stabilisation of the Western Balkans; welcomes, in this respect, the first Serbia – Bosnia and Herzegovina joint ministerial meeting, which took place on 4 November 2015 in Sarajevo; calls on Serbia to further promote the stabilisation and institutional strengthening of Bosnia and Herzegovina through its existing contacts and good-neighbourly relations with the country; reiterates its call on the Serbian authorities to initiate further measures for cross-borde ...

When we look at that region of relative, almost-disastrous neighbours, Turkey's position today is one that gives Canada a very significant opportunity to help to shape a region that will be both politically and economically important to our country.

Each of the Balkan countries has such a perspective today, which guarantees the stability of the region and the development, both political and economic, of each of the countries. Moreover, this perspective has meaning, and particular meaning with regard to Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is the country of the region that – need I remind you?
Chacun des pays des Balkans dispose aujourd’hui d’une telle perspective qui est garante de la stabilité de la région et du développement tant politique qu’économique de chacun des États et cette perspective prend tout son sens, et un sens particulier en ce qui concerne la Bosnie-et-Herzégovine qui est le pays de la région qui - faut-il le rappeler?

Setting the scene, for “2005-the year of the Mediterranean”, and striving the support of the Region both politically and economically, Greek authorities host today a Ministerial Development and Business Congress, showcasing in this way the long standing cultural and economic links the country enjoys with the peoples and states of the Region.

The Socialist Group supports the existence of two differentiated regulations out of coherence with a long journey which is now culminating; because we believe that Latin America and Asia deserve to be treated at least equally with the other developing regions – and, in this regard, both political representatives and representatives of civil society of the two regions have demonstrated to us their desire for their own regulations and programmes; because we are convinced that the benefits for the populations of both regions, the ultimate objective of the regulations, will be much greater than the administrative difficulties the Commission is afraid of – at the end of the day, these difficulties will be limited to a healthy division into two of the current ALA Committee and a reallocation of staff; and finally, because we profoundly respect our own legislative capacity.
Le groupe socialiste soutient l’idée de deux règlements séparés par souci de logique avec un long cheminement qui s’achève aujourd’hui. En effet, nous croyons premièrement que l’Amérique latine et l’Asie méritent d’être considérées au moins de la même manière que les autres régions en développement; à cet égard, tant les représentants politiques que les représentants de la société civile de ces deux régions nous ont affirmé qu’ils souhaitent posséder leurs propres règlements et programmes. Deuxièmement, nous sommes convaincus que les avantages pour les populations des deux régions - l’objectif final des règlements - seront bien plus importants que les difficultés administratives que la Commission craint. En fin de compte, ces difficultés se limiteront à un dédoublement salutaire de l’actuel comité ALA et à une réaffectation du personnel. Enfin, nous respectons totalement notre propre capacité législative.

The Stabilisation and Association process is a long-term commitment to the region in terms of both political effort and financial and human resources.

For when the issue at hand is a region of such dynamic growth - both political and economic - I believe that to make the most of this opportunity requires unrelenting and sustained efforts.
