Definition: This category differs from others in that it includes disorders identifiable on the basis of not only symptoms and course but also the existence of one or other of two causative influences: an exceptionally stressful life event producing an acute stress reaction, or a significant life change leading to continued unpleasant circumstances that result in an adjustment disorder. The disorders in this section can thus be regarded as maladaptive responses to severe or continued stress, in that they interfere with successful coping mechanisms and therefore lead to problems of social functioning.

The following in particular should be noted: - the suppression of all purely quantitative criteria regarding access to the distribution network and the introduction of a procedure for automatic admission of new distributors, subject only to the application of certain qualitative criteria and a maximum waiting period of 12 months; - an express recognition of the freedom of the distributor to determine its own retail prices; - the liberalisation of cross-sales among autorized retailers established within the same Member State; - the suppression of certain contractual provisions which would result in the restraint of the liberty of the distributor to sell the contracted goods to other members of the network (change of the rules concerning both the calculation of the minimum level of annual purchases and the control by the manufacturer of the distributors' invoices as well as the suppression of a ban to export new products outside the territory in which they were officially launched).
