I wish to comment on what the parliamentary secretary said, to note that the federal government does not appear to want to hold a referendum, to take the approach proposed by Reformers, because not only does it want to respect the will of the provincial government to consult and take the decisions it sees fit in this regard, but also, and particularly, because it wants to respect the decision of the Nisga'a nation, which has itself opted, through a referendum, for the new political status conferred on it by the Nisga'a Final Agreement.
Je veux commenter ce qu'a dit le secrétaire parlementaire pour prendre acte du fait que le gouvernement fédéral semble ne pas vouloir tenir de référendum, ne pas s'engager dans la voie proposée par les réformistes, parce qu'il veut, non seulement respecter la volonté du gouvernement de la province de consulter et de prendre des décisions, comme il l'entend, sur cette question, mais aussi et surtout, parce qu'il veut respecter la décision de la nation nisga'a qui a elle-même choisi par référendum ce nouveau statut politique que lui confère l'Accord définitif nisga'a.
