The Troika Ministers for Finance (Mr Thor PEDERSEN, Minister for Finance of Denmark and President of the Council, Mr Nicos CHRISTODOULAKIS, Minister for the National Economy and Finance of Greece, and Mr Giulio TREMONTI, Minister for the Economy and Finance of Italy), Commissioners BOLKESTEIN and SOLBES and the President of the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Committee, Ms RANDZIO-PLATH, had an exchange of views on the report on financial regulation, supervision and stability.

Nicos CHRISTODOULAKIS, ministre de l'économie et des finances de la Grèce et M. Giulio TREMONTI, ministre de l'économie et des finances de l'Italie), MM. BOLKESTEIN et SOLBES, membres de la Commission, et la présidente de la Commission économique et monétaire du Parlement européen, Mme RANDZIO-PLATH, ont eu un échange de vues sur le rapport sur la réglementation, la surveillance et la stabilité financières.

It is therefore a great pleasure for me to attempt to answer the questions that have been raised, bearing in mind that five minutes does not, of course, give me enough time to provide a detailed answer. We will, however, have the opportunity to continue the dialogue, particularly within the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, under the dynamic chairmanship of Mrs Randzio-Plath and on the basis of the excellent report by Mr Olle Schmidt.
C'est donc avec grand plaisir que je vais m'efforcer de répondre aux questions qui ont été posées, tout en sachant qu'en cinq minutes on ne peut évidemment pas donner une réponse approfondie ; mais nous aurons l'occasion de poursuivre le dialogue, notamment au sein de la commission économique et monétaire, sous la présidence dynamique de Mme Randzio-Plath et sur la base de l'excellent rapport de M. I agree nevertheless with Mrs Randzio-Plath that the synthesis report will need to take account of the likely situation by the time the Barcelona European Council is held. This means, on the one hand, the new international situation to which she has referred, and, on the other hand, the introduction of the euro on 1 January next year.
Je suis néanmoins d'accord avec Mme Randzio-Plath pour dire que le rapport de synthèse devra tenir compte de la situation probable au moment du Conseil européen de Barcelone ; à savoir, d'une part la nouvelle situation internationale dont elle a parlé, et d'autre part, l'introduction de l'euro le 1er janvier prochain.

Be that as it may, the report by Mr Lamfalussy had a mitigated reception, both in the ECOFIN Council and in the European Parliament, to the extent that some of his proposals threatened the interinstitutional balance. Mrs Randzio-Plath has already spoken about this so I will not go over it again.
Néanmoins, le rapport de M. Lamfalussy a reçu un accueil mitigé tant au Conseil ECOFIN qu'au Parlement européen, dans la mesure où certaines de ses propositions menacent l'équilibre interinstitutionnel - Madame Randzio-Plath en ayant parlé, je n'y reviendrai plus.
