Therefore, our central concern with Bill C-27 is that it creates a framework to permit an unelected bureaucracy, the CFIA, to restructure the regulations that govern Canada's food and agriculture in a way that will put trade ahead of public safety and that will put integration with the U.S. regulatory system ahead of legitimate Canadian democratic control over the rules that govern the food we eat.
