Considers that the extension of the thematic scope of LIFE, the broadening of its geographical scope and the addition of new types of projects should not lead to a replacement of the successful existing projects and thus be reflected in a significant increase of the Programme's overall envelope. Furthermore, stresses the urgency of providing adequate funding for the Union's biodiversity through support of the Natura 2000 network and is convinced that LIFE should contribute at least 10 % to the annual Natura 2000 funding needs of EUR 5 800 million and considers that the remaining funding needs to be covered through other Union funds as well as Member States and private funding sources;
