6. Environment and climate The environment and climate programme will continue the efforts to structure European environmental research by establishing networks of excellence and RTD in the following three areas: - "Research into the natural environment, environmental quality and global change" the aim of which is to understand the basic mechanisms of the climate and natural systems and to assess the impact of human activities on these systems and on natural resources (water, forests, agriculture, desertification, coastal areas); - "Environmental technologies" in order to develop environmental monitoring and protection technologies (biosensors, waste treatment, etc.), the restoration of deteriorated sectors of the environment, and the management of natural hazards (forest fires, seismic and volcanic risks, flooding, etc.); - "Space technology applied to Earth observation and environmental research" in order to determine the planet's state of health from satellite data, necessitating the development of specific space instruments (advanced sensors).
6. Environnement et climat Le programme ENVIRONNEMENT ET CLIMAT poursuit l'effort de structuration de la recherche européenne en environnement, et ceci grâce la mise en place de réseaux d'excellence et à une action de RDT dans les trois domaines suivants: ". recherche sur l'environnement naturel, la qualité de l'environnement et le changement global", dont l'objectif est, d'une part, de comprendre les mécanismes fondamentaux du climat et des systèmes naturels et, d'autre part, d'évaluer l'impact des activités humaines sur ces systèmes ainsi que sur les ressources naturelles (eau, forêts, agriculture, menaces de désertification, zones côtières); ". technologies pour l'environnement", afin de développer des technologies pour la surveillance et la protection de l'environnement (biosenseurs, traitement des déchets, etc.), la restauration de milieux dégradés et la gestion des risques naturels (feux de forêts, risques sismiques et volcaniques, inondations, etc.); ". techniques spatiales appliquées à la surveillance de la Terre et la recherche en matière d'environnement", pour pouvoir établir un "bilan de santé" de la planète à partir des données envoyées par les satellites, ce qui nécessite le développement d'instruments spatiaux spécifiques (capteurs de pointe).
