2. ‘Representative professional organisation’ shall mean any producer organisation or association of producer organisations having adopted the same rules, operating in a given or more wine designation of origin or geographical indication area(s) where it includes in its membership at least two thirds of the producers in the designation of origin or geographical indication area(s) in which it operates and accounts for at least two thirds of that areas’ production.
2. (3) Where a product that is wholly manufactured or produced in a country other than Canada is packaged in Canada at other than the retail level of trade and the resulting prepackaged product has applied to it a label that shows the identity and principal place of business of either the person in Canada for whom the product was manufactured or produced for resale in prepackaged form or for whom the prepackaged product was manufactured or produced for resale, the identity and principal place of business of that person shall be preceded by the words “imported by” (“importé par”) or “imported for” (“importé pour”), as the case may be, unless the geographic origin of the product is stated on the label.

(10) Where a feed that is manufactured or produced and labelled in a country other than Canada has applied to it a label that shows the identity and principal place of business of the person in Canada for whom the feed was manufactured or produced for resale, the identity and principal place of business of that person shall be preceded by the words “imported by” or “importé par” or by the words “imported for” or “importé pour”, unless the geographic origin of the product is stated on the label.

nevertheless, where an agricultural or other product or a foodstuff possesses particular characteristics which are due to its geographical origin, it is possible for the producers of the product or foodstuff to apply, through the competent authorities of the Member State concerned, for registration at Community level of a protected designation of origin (PDO) or a protected geographical indication (PGI) in accordance with the provisions of Council Regulation No 510/2006 of 20 March 2006 on the protection of geographical indications and designations of origin for agricultural products and foodstuffs ; the granting of registration means that the Community has recognised the existence of very close links between the specific qualities of the product concerned and its geographical origin; in such cases, the common interest does not oppose the granting of aid for advertising which includes a reference to the origin of the product concerned, provided that the references to origin correspond exactly to those references which have been registered by the Community; similar considerations apply to other designations of origin which are protected under Community legislation, for example wines produced in specified regions in accordance with Articles 54–58 of Council Regulation (EC) No 1493/1999 of 17 May on the common organisation of the market in wine

(b) the name of a geographical unit as referred to in paragraph 1 where the wine is obtained from a mixture of grapes, grape musts, new wines still in fermentation or, until 31 August 2003, wines originating in the geographical unit the name of which is to be used for the designation with a product obtained in the same specified region but outside that unit, provided that at least 85 % of the quality wine psr concerned is obtained from grapes harvested in the geographical unit the name of which it bears, and provided, in respect of the exception expiring on 31 August 2003, that such an arrangement was allowed by the provisions of the producer Member State concerned before 1 September 1995.
