After the French presidential election in 2012 (when Mr Hollande was elected as President of the Republic), it appeared that the campaign accounts of Nicolas Sarkozy exceeded the limits set in the law for the campaign expenses of candidates for the presidency. As a consequence, France’s national commission for campaign accounts and political financing decided to reject his campaign accounts on 19 December 2012.
Après l'élection présidentielle française de 2012 (qui a porté M. Hollande à la présidence de la République), il est apparu que les comptes de campagne de Nicolas Sarkozy dépassaient le plafond légal des dépenses de campagne des candidats à la présidence, à la suite de quoi la Commission nationale des comptes de campagne et des financements politiques a décidé, le 19 décembre 2012, de rejeter ces comptes.

He has said that he will present a second report that would deal with political financing reforms. However, instead of now awaiting Mr. Kingsley's report on political financing and having a review of those new financing laws by a House of Commons committee, as required in Bill C-24, the government has decided to bring forward major new changes to those same financing laws in this bill, without any review whatsoever.

To enable the EIB to increase its financing activities, Member States should decide before the end of the year to incorporate EIB’s reserves to reinforce its capital base in the order of € 60 bn, which will provide a highly visible political signal to the markets and which will significantly increase the Bank's lending capacity.
