The Hungarian forint, which is unilaterally pegged to the euro with a ( 15 percent fluctuation margin since 2001, is not participating in ERM II. For most of the period since the introduction of the unilateral peg to the euro, the forint has fluctuated within the upper part of the band. However, from August 2005 onwards, the forint depreciated substantially vis-à-vis the euro, to a low point in June 2006, after which it gradually started to strengthen again. During the two years before this assessment, i.e. between November 2004 and October 2006, the forint depreciated against the euro by about 9 percent. Hungary does not fulfil the exchange rate criterion.
Le forint hongrois, arrimé unilatéralement à l'euro depuis 2001 à l'intérieur d'une marge de fluctuation de + 15 %, ne participe pas au MCE II. Pendant l'essentiel de la période qui a suivi l'arrimage unilatéral à l'euro, le forint a fluctué dans la partie supérieure de la marge. Toutefois, depuis août 2005, le forint s'est largement déprécié par rapport à l'euro, pour atteindre son niveau le plus bas en juin 2006 avant de commencer à se raffermir. Durant les deux ans qui ont précédé la présente évaluation, à savoir entre novembre 2004 et octobre 2006, le forint s'est déprécié d'environ 9 % par rapport à l'euro. La Hongrie ne satisfait pas au critère du taux de change.

Regarding the ERM-II, some time after accession, new Member States will be expected to join the ERM II. The ERM II could accommodate the main features of a number of exchange rates regimes, provided their commitments and objectives are credible and in line with those of the ERM II. The only clear incompatibilities vis-à-vis the ERM II that can be identified already at this stage are fully floating exchange rates, crawling pegs and pegs against anchors other than the euro.
En ce qui concerne le SME-II, quelque temps après l'adhésion, il est envisagé que les nouveaux Etats membres le rejoignent.
