Recalls in this connection the meaningful role that parliamentary diplomacy can play as a complementary tool in the Union's relations with third countries and regions; calls upon the Council and the Commission to establish closer ties, based on cooperation, with the three major interparliamentary assemblies (the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, the Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly and the EU-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly), which play an important role and which bring together parliamentarians from around the world, thereby enhancing democratic legitimacy and providing valuable political forums for overall dialogue; charges Parliament's responsible organs to coordinate and strengthen administrative support to those interparliamentary assemblies accordingly;

Is of the opinion that reinforcing political dialogue and cooperation with the European Parliament (the Parliament of a Union of 25 States and representing around 450 million people from 2004 on), will contribute to the success of the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to develop, in close cooperation with the International Parliamentary Union, a parliamentary dimension of the UN; it will also reinforce the democratic dimension to the UN, promoting its rapprochement to the citizens of one of the most relevant regions of the world and a major partner in the resolution of the challenges and threats that the world faces today;
40. estime que le renforcement du dialogue et de la coopération politiques avec le Parlement européen (le Parlement d'une Union de 25 États représentant environ 450 millions de personnes à partir de 2004) contribuera au succès des efforts du Secrétaire général de l'ONU pour affirmer, en coopération avec l'Union parlementaire internationale, la dimension parlementaire des Nations unies, et renforcera par ailleurs la dimension démocratique de l'ONU qu'elle rendra plus proche des citoyens de l'une des régions les plus importantes au monde, partenaire majeur dans la résolution des défis et des menaces qu'affronte le monde d'aujourd'hui;
