Calls on the Council, the Commission and the Member States, in conjunction with Parliament, to foster the autonomy of persons with dementia and promote their dignity and social inclusion through the action plan in the field of health, and to provide information on best practices as regards respect for the rights of the vulnerable and combating the mistreatment of dementia patients;

I realize that this is an important imperative, but it is not an imperative that stands in the face of dying children and people who, through no fault of their own today, by the misfortune of living in another part of the world as a result of war or strife, or as a result of nations that fail to protect people's human rights and dignity, are left in the position where they have no alternative but to hope that the Parliament in Ottawa, Canada, today will get it act together collectively and make sure that its best efforts in terms of resources are placed on the people who need it most.

– (EL) Mr President, Commissioner, I should like to start by congratulating the rapporteur on the fulsomeness of her work and my honourable friends for their speeches on the proposal for a recommendation by the European Parliament and the Council on the protection of minors and human dignity and the right of reply in relation to the competitiveness of the European audiovisual and information services industry being proposed through the De Sarnez report.

[English] There are, however, other affronts against the dignity and authority of Parliament that may not fall within one of the specifically defined privileges. The House also enjoys wide latitude in maintaining its authority and dignity through the exercise of its power to investigate and discipline in instances of contempt.

Look upon it as indispensable that all necessary steps be taken to guarantee that this joint resolve is carried through; 4.
