TRADUCTIONS EN CONTEXTE
We can do better for our RCMP so that we can remain proud of the people who work so hard for us and put their lives at risk, but work in a difficult environment.

My father told my mother, “If they have a military like that, can you imagine what kind of country they come from?” I know right now there are families in Afghanistan, in Haiti and around the world looking at our Canadian soldiers, our RCMP people and their families and also saying, “Imagine what kind of country they come from”.

In this particular case, our RCMP officers were showing Afghan police how to stop an approaching vehicle, but respecting the lives of people in it—so not stopping it with rockets, but stopping it—how to have the people exit the vehicle, how to check a vehicle that possibly has explosives embedded in it, and to do it in a way that would not only be safe to the former inhabitants of the car, but also to themselves.

With regard to what we are doing about it, in collaboration with our RCMP colleagues and other law enforcement officials, we are reaching out to a diversity of ethnic communities in Canada to try to carry this message forward, to educate people and to elicit their support in our efforts to counter these threats.

I understand from your comments that you feel that this bill means that the government and the people of Canada recognize the risks that our military and our RCMP members undergo, particularly when they are put in dangerous situations not always outside of Canada.
