The note from the Italian Presidency intends : - to reaffirm the political importance of the cooperation of the EU with the countries in the Mediterranean region also in the field of science and technology; - to express the intention of giving a concrete follow-up to the decisions taken at the Barcelona Conference on 27/28 November 1995 which launched the Euro-Mediterranean partnership; - to give continuity to the initiatives undertaken by the previous Presidencies of the European Union in this area.
