During 2006, the three Scientific Committees[32], namely the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (the SCCP), the Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks (the SCHER), and the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (the SCENIHR), adopted a wide range of opinions covering such matters as certain hair dyes (as part of a review of possible cancer risks), the safety of sun beds, existing substances under Regulation 793/93, other substances like organotins, the possible effects of substances released by air freshener products, the effect of electromagnetic fields on human health and the appropriateness of existing methodologies for assessing the risks of nanomaterials.
En 2006, les trois comités scientifiques[32], à savoir le comité scientifique des produits de consommation, le comité scientifique des risques sanitaires et environnementaux et le comité scientifique des risques sanitaires émergents et nouveaux, ont adopté de nombreux avis portant notamment sur certaines teintures capillaires (dans le cadre d'un réexamen des risques possibles de cancer), la sécurité des bancs solaires, les substances existantes couvertes par le règlement (CEE) n° 793/93, d'autres substances telles que les composés organostanniques, les effets possibles des substances libérées par les produits désodorisants, l'effet des champs électromagnétiques sur la santé humaine et la pertinence des méthodologies existantes pour évaluer les risques des nanomatériaux.

This was confirmed by the recent updated opinion requested from the EC scientific committee and is also reflected by other international and national scientific committees and the WHO.

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Products (‘SCCP’), subsequently replaced by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (‘SCCS’) pursuant to Commission Decision 2008/721/EC , evaluated the safety of alkyl (C, C, C) trimethylammonium chloride (cetrimonium chloride, steartrimonium chloride and behentrimonium chloride) for other uses than as preservatives in 2005, 2007 and 2009.

In 2004 and 2005 about €280.000 was committed for meetings of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Products and as a contribution to other scientific committees dealing with consumer issues.

3. In order to accomplish the above tasks, the Committee shall cooperate with the other Committees which are competent for safety and health at work, inter alia with the Senior Labour Inspectors Committee and the Scientific Committee for Occupational Exposure Limits to Chemical Agents, mainly by exchanging information.

Whereas in order to protect public health, maximum residue limits must be established in accordance with generally recognized principles of safety assessment, taking into account any other scientific assessment of the safety of the substances concerned which may have been undertaken by international organizations, in particular the Codex Alimentarius or, where such substances are used for other purposes, by other scientific committees established within the Community;
